It was a great honour to talk with Yee Von, and today, we proudly present our interview!
Yee Von: I like fairy tales and enjoy them very much. They are beautiful imaginations which a lot of things are possible, where natures and living creatures are connected deeply together. It also allows partial of my dreams come to reality in the world I’m living, where often we have to hide our true self to fit into the society.
L: Which books most inspired you?
Yee Von: Classical children fantasy stories are definitely in my booklists; enchanted wood, adventures and wonders, like ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ or ‘Peter Pan’. And ‘Alice in Wonderland’ is my all-time favourite!
L: Ideal world for you is….?
Yee Von: It’s the world where there are lovely people, beautiful places and lots of great food. Kinda like the one we are living in now, even better if there’s flying unicorn and raining candies :D
L: You have BA in Graphic Design, but you became an illustrator. Why you choose illustration?
Yee Von: I was working as Graphic Designer for few years before I went further study to pursue my Master. I like Graphic Design a lot, but somehow I don’t feel deeply connected. It was a life changing opportunity which I was then discovered my true passion in illustration during my studies. I was able to express more: my thoughts, my inspirations and my emotions. It was a joy to able to express those through illustrations. Still, the skills I learned from Graphic Design was now helping me in designing my illustrations into a series of paper goods. Like the saying goes ‘The beautiful thing about learning is that nobody can take it away from you’ (B.B. King).
L: And our special question. Imagine that you are sweets, what kind it would be and why?
Yee Von: That would be a marshmallow with chili flakes within. For once I was described by my friends that I might look soft and harmless on the outside (marshmallow) but they always surprised by my craziness inside (chili flakes), hehe.
Thank you, Yee Von!
