Leivos had a great pleasure to interview Spanish illustrator David Despau. David worked as a Creative Director and Art Director at advertising agencies. And now he is famous illustrator, who creates stunning images.
L: Can you tell us a little about yourself?
DD: Well, it’s difficult speak about myself but… I can tell you that I’m a creative/art director and illustrator based in Madrid. I studied Architecture (one year) and then Fine Arts. Since then I have been working in Digital advertising and now I combine this work with my passion “illustration”.
L: What are your life style and daily routine? Take us through your typical day.
DD: I’m creative director in advertising agency called Orbital BBDO. I go there every day. By afternoon I go to my studio and I can’t stop drawing… I use to go to cinema, art exhibitions…
L: You create lots portraits of famous people. Amazing works! How do you choose whom to draw? For example, why R. Meyers?
DD: I use to choose famous people that I like… actress, singers, models, and actors like R. Meyers. I fell in love Scarlet Johansson in Lost in Translation, then I saw Match Point and I liked so much R. Meyers it’s for what I drew him. I look for the best photos of them and then I make my interpretation.
L: What was the weirdest stuff that happened to you?
DD: I dont know what to say, maybe answer this question ;)
L: You have taken part in 75ht DC Comics and MyFace Exhibition, Paris. Do you have any favourite comics?
DD: Really I’m not a follower of comics but if I had to choose I like so much the dark art of Batman. When I drew it for 75ht DC Comics and MyFace Exhibition I enjoyed so much, it’s perfect for my style!
L: And our special question:) Imagine that you are sweets, what kind it would be and why?
DD: I like so much sweets and candies since I was child. Maybe I would like to be a PEZ candy, do you know? Its small, beautiful like a little brick and ever inside a figure (ET, R2D2, micky mouse, Twitty…) My favorite flavor is orange or strawberry.
