Markers, pens, crayones are the main materials that are used by Minjae Lee for creating his dreamlike art works- illustrations that have intricate flowing lines creating shadows, forms and movement.
Appearing black and white at first, then gaining colors and multiplay layers above them that lead to breathing life and energy into each single piece.

L: Most of your beautiful females are innocent, wild and strong at the same time. What is your vision of a modern woman?
ML: Women who are themselves. If your passionate and wild, be passionate and wild. If your vanilla, be vanilla. Who does’nt like vanilla. Simply, to be true to yourself.
L: We know you are self-taught artist. So you have never taken any art lessons, haven’t you?
ML: I was interested to study cartoons, but I chose a different path. Its not that close what I do now, but clearly It was helped with my drawing ability for shape.
I personally think Its not a good choice to be taught drawing/painting in an institute, also think drawing alone is not that good either. What I needed was friends who can draw with me and who can understand who I am and expect something from me.

L: You use old-fashioned tools (markers, pens, crayons, acrylics). Are you interested in using graphics programmes in the future?
ML: Actually I was very into Photoshop/painter drawing with a tablet. like I was a High school student. Also “Eyes”(2007) piece is made with Photoshop. But I just can’t feel interest with digital tools when I keep using that.
Most of reason is because of “Undo”.  A lots of digital painter or maybe almost everyone love “Undo” tool. But I do not love that. I think every touch or move happens for reason even It was a mistake for me. If I want to make everything in my control. That’s not fun at all. I feel it limits your growth as an artist. Because of that, I will not use digital tool for drawing,  maybe someday I will but not now.
L: Is there a place (city, country) in the world that most inspires you and why?
ML: I can’t think of any specific city or country. I keep looking at ancient civilization. I also love ancient architecture.

L: What websites do you use daily?
ML: Facebook, Hotmail.
L: You are so young and very talented. Can you give some advice to those young artists who just start the way in art and doubt in their talent and abilities?
ML: Believe in yourself.  Other people’s thoughts are not important, because a lot of the time they think of themselves and not of you and sometimes this is simply inherent in human nature. It is sometimes conscious, sometimes subconscious, but no matter what it is, it does not need to affect you in a negative way, they could be in a bad place when they say things in a moment. After all, you are the one who will live together with your art until you die. Why do you care other people’s think?

L: If you had an extra hour each day what would you do with it?
ML: Maybe I’ll sleep. Cause I think life is full of long time for waiting death. but waiting for death is too boring, That’s why I drawing something, make friends. I sleep to forget. Otherwise life would be very boring and sad. We only have so much time in this world.
